The process I use to make my soap is called the cold process method. This takes the most time but is undoubtedly the best method for producing the highest quality soaps. Now we need to discuss the ingredients. Cold process soap bars are made using a combination of oils, fats and lye. Lye sounds a little scary, but all the caustic qualities of the lye are removed during the curing process. When the lye interacts with the oils or fats, it creates glycerin. The type of oils and fats used make a difference in how hard or soft the soap bar ends up being, and how well it lathers. In order to achieve a soap that lathers and lasts, I add shea butter as well as palm and coconut oils.
Palm oil is a great way to keep your skin younger looking. It is said to heal damage and protect the skin from new damage. Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on dry skin. Shea butter contains vitamin A and vitamin E. Vitamin A helps in the reconstruction of skin cell damage and vitamin E is an antioxidant. The skin readily absorbs the Shea butter without leaving an oily surface on the skin. These ingredients mixed with an essential oil results in a soap that you will find refreshing.
